It’s Dream Cruise Week here in Southeast Michigan! It feels like a holiday weekend around here. Some people have spent all year prepping their prized vehicles for the weekend’s big event. Before you head out this weekend, here are some fun facts about the Dream Cruise to impress your friends and family:
- The Woodward Dream Cruise actually started as a small fundraiser to raise money for a soccer field in Ferndale.
- In August 1995, Nelson House and a group of volunteers looked to relive and recreate the nostalgic heydays of the 50’s and 60’s, when youth, music and Motor City steel participated – nearly ten times the number expected.
- The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one day automotive event, drawing 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars each year from around the globe.
- Many view the Woodward Dream Cruise as an annual rite of summer, coming back year after year.
I was blown away that the Dream Cruise didn’t start until 1995! I swore it had started way back in the 50’s since that’s where most of the cars come from. If you are heading to Woodward for the festivities this weekend, be sure to be on the lookout of OFFICIAL Driving School cars! We will be cruisin’ along passing our goodies and offering discounts!
