First things First: How?
Being a Driving Instructor is an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling career path. However, there are prerequisites you must meet. They are as follows:
- Be at least 21 years old
- Have a valid driver’s license for at least five years
- Have a clean driving record
- Have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Submit a certified medical examination from the past 90 days
- Pass a Live Scan Fingerprint Background Check
- Complete an Instructor Preparation Program (IPP) with a certified state provider (that’s us!)
- And, of course, have a passion for teaching and mentoring

What is IPP?
The Instructor Preparation Program (IPP) is a state-approved course designed to help you become a certified driving instructor. It includes everything you need to start teaching students. The 4 state certified courses needed are in one detailed program
501: Driver Task Analysis (45 hours)
502: Developing Classroom Instructional Knowledge (45 hours)
503: Developing Vehicle Operational Skills (45 hours)
504: Student Teaching Practicum (45 hours)

ATTEND
Classes are a mix of in-person instruction as well as impactful hands-on experience instructing.
LICENSE
We here at OFFICIAL Driving School provide the preparation and cover your application fee.

Michigan Law
Under Michigan state law, all drivers education instructors must complete the Instructor Preparatory Program (IPP). Official Driving School offers a premium IPP program, essential for earning certification by the State of Michigan. We offer tuition assistance.
